Economy: Shipbuilding

The greatest journeys begin in the Shipyard. The Shipbuilder transforms the kingdom's finest materials into vessels that connect distant shores through trade, exploration and naval power.

The greatest journeys begin in the Shipyard. The Shipbuilder transforms the kingdom's finest materials into vessels that connect distant shores through trade, exploration and naval power.

Previous industries prepared every material required for naval construction.

Shipbuilding brings them together.

The Shipbuilder transforms refined construction materials into complete Ships. Wooden structures prepared by Carpenters, textiles processed through Leather & Textiles and metals refined from the kingdom's ores all meet within one immense craft.

Unlike future Harbors, the Shipbuilder manufactures Ships but does not operate transportation services. Every voyage may depend upon a vessel, but the profession's responsibility is to build it.

The Shipbuilder

The Shipbuilder works at the Shipyard, where several of the kingdom's deepest production chains converge.

The Shipyard uses:

  • Wooden Beams
  • Wooden Boards
  • Rope
  • Linen
  • Iron, Bronze or Steel

Its product is deliberately simple:

  • Ships

The profession intentionally remains generic. The Shipbuilder crafts every type of Ship required by the kingdom rather than specializing in separate Economy categories. Each vessel begins as one individually crafted Ship Blueprint, but every current and future design remains part of the same Shipbuilding profession.

The illustration carries the full production flow. Shipbuilding does not replace those earlier industries; it gives their finest materials a shared destination at the edge of the water.

Building a Fleet

The Shipbuilder produces every vessel required throughout the kingdom.

Ships may serve many purposes:

  • Fishing
  • River Navigation
  • Maritime Trade
  • Exploration
  • Military

A fishing vessel may sustain a coastal community. A river vessel may connect inland Settlements. A merchant Ship may carry prosperity between distant shores, while exploration and military vessels extend the reach and security of the realm.

The exact fleet can expand naturally as new Ship designs are introduced over time. The profession itself remains unchanged. New hulls and models enrich the world without fragmenting Shipbuilding into a long list of artificial specializations.

Building Stronger Ships

Every Ship carries the work of multiple previous industries within its structure.

Wooden Beams provide the structural framework. They establish the strength around which the rest of the vessel is built.

Wooden Boards form the hull and decks, turning that framework into a complete wooden vessel.

Rope creates the rigging and represents the many practical lines and fittings required aboard a Ship.

Linen creates the sails that transform the wind into movement.

Iron, Bronze or Steel determines the Ship's maximum Ship HP. Iron provides Base Ship HP, Bronze provides Higher Ship HP and Steel provides Highest Ship HP.

The selected metal represents anchors, chains, reinforcements, structural metalwork and other components already abstracted within the Ship Blueprint. Stronger construction materials improve the completed vessel's durability rather than the speed at which it is crafted.

Connecting the World

Shipbuilding represents one of the kingdom's greatest engineering achievements.

Ships connect Settlements separated by water. They carry goods, people and opportunity across rivers, coastlines and open seas. They allow resources to travel beyond the limits of roads and enable communities to reach places that would otherwise remain distant.

Future Harbors will operate these Ships, organize their journeys and turn vessels into transportation services. Yet every voyage begins inside the Shipyard, where prepared materials become something capable of crossing the world.

Shipbuilding completes another major branch of advanced crafting.

Previous industries prepared the materials. The Shipbuilder transforms them into the vessels that expand trade, exploration and civilization itself.

From the smallest working craft to the greatest vessel the kingdom may one day build, every Ship begins with the same profession and the same extraordinary act of engineering.

The next Economy article will continue introducing another important system within the kingdom—without revealing its subject.
