Introducing the Golden Calendar

The official calendar system that gives The City of Gold a shared timeline, living generations, and a history that moves forward.

Time is not decoration in The City of Gold. It is one of the foundations of the world.

In many MMORPGs, years pass only in lore. Cities remain unchanged, rulers never grow old, children never inherit, and history waits for the next scripted update. The City of Gold is being built around a different idea: the world should continue to move.

Years pass. Generations succeed one another. Children become adults. Adults become elders. Houses grow, divide, rise, or fall. Kingdoms change rulers. Victories, losses, births, deaths, titles, and betrayals all need a shared timeline that lets the world remember them.

That timeline is the Golden Calendar.

The Golden Calendar, or GC, is the official calendar system of The City of Gold. It is the structure that allows time to become part of play, and it gives every player a single shared history.

The Beginning

The official history of the world begins on:

GC Year 0 - Day 0

Monday, 13 October 2025

This is the origin point for every historical event, every age calculation, every House record, and every future date. When a character is born, when a ruler inherits, when a House is founded, or when a war becomes history, it belongs to a timeline that begins here.

Time Conversion

Time inside The City of Gold moves faster than real life, but it remains synchronized for everyone.

  • One real-life week equals one Golden Calendar year.
  • Every Monday marks the beginning of a new Golden Calendar year for every player simultaneously.
  • Every player shares exactly the same timeline.
  • The entire world advances together.

This gives the world motion without isolating players into separate versions of history. A House founded in a given year is founded in that year for everyone. A succession, death, treaty, title, festival, or public event enters the same shared record for the entire community.

A Complete Year

Every Golden Calendar year contains:

  • 364 days
  • 12 months
  • 4 seasons

There are no leap years.

Each Golden Calendar year contains 364 days, divided across twelve months and four environmental seasons. Spring, Summer, and Autumn each span 104 Golden Calendar days (2 real-life days), while Winter spans 52 Golden Calendar days (1 real-life day). Together they complete one Golden Calendar year every real-life week.

The Twelve Months

Each season contains three months, creating a complete annual cycle.

Spring

  • Dawnrise - 35 days
  • Bloomtide - 35 days
  • Verdance - 34 days

Summer

  • Suncrest - 35 days
  • Goldheat - 35 days
  • Highsun - 34 days

Autumn

  • Harvestfall - 35 days
  • Amberwind - 35 days
  • Longshade - 34 days

Winter

  • Frostrest - 18 days
  • Deepnight - 17 days
  • New Dawn - 17 days

Real Time Conversion

  • One Golden Calendar year = 364 Golden Calendar days.
  • One real-life week = one Golden Calendar year.
  • One Golden Calendar day = exactly 27 minutes and 41.538 seconds.

One Calendar for Every Player

The Golden Calendar is synchronized from the game's authoritative backend whenever a player logs in. Once synchronized, the client advances time locally using a high-precision monotonic timer for the duration of the session. This ensures every player experiences the same shared timeline while avoiding unnecessary network traffic.

The Golden Calendar never pauses. Even while you are offline, the world's history continues to advance for everyone. When you return, you rejoin the same living timeline shared by the entire community.

Day and Night

Every in-game day contains:

  • 16 hours of daylight
  • 8 hours of night

In real time, that is approximately:

  • Daylight (16 hours) = approximately 18 minutes 27.692 seconds.
  • Night (8 hours) = approximately 9 minutes 13.846 seconds.

This intentionally favors daylight to encourage exploration, travel, construction, trade, and social activity while preserving the atmosphere and strategic importance of nighttime.

Growing Older

Every character ages naturally.

Children become adults. Adults become elders. New generations inherit the achievements, obligations, enemies, titles, lands, and unfinished work of those who came before them.

Assuming a character survives war, disease, accidents, execution, and other dangers, the average natural lifespan is approximately 80 years. Since one real-life week equals one Golden Calendar year, an average character can live for roughly 80 real-life weeks.

That is long enough for a character to matter. It is also short enough for generational change to become real. A ruler will not remain young forever. An heir will eventually inherit. A founder will one day become an ancestor. A House's story will not belong to one person alone.

A Living World

The Golden Calendar will govern nearly every major system in The City of Gold.

It is the foundation for:

  • Character aging
  • Births
  • Deaths
  • House histories
  • Noble succession
  • Institutions
  • Religions
  • Historical events
  • Festivals
  • Agriculture
  • Seasonal gameplay
  • Future world events

Every player experiences the same timeline. That shared structure is what allows one history to form instead of thousands of disconnected personal timelines.

One Shared History

The Golden Calendar is not only a background mechanic. It is one of the pillars of The City of Gold.

Every year changes the world.

Every generation leaves a legacy.

Every action can become part of history.

This announcement introduces the Golden Calendar and the ideas behind it. The permanent canonical reference lives in the World Encyclopedia under 'Golden Calendar', where the complete calendar, conversions, months, seasons, synchronization, aging, and future world systems are documented.

The Golden Calendar has begun.

Now it is time for players to write the chapters that follow.
